The plucky true-believer metal stylings of Cormorant's Earth Diver start us off tonight, and I've gotta tell you: this is one damn fine album. It's delightfully retro, and emotive, and warm. But it is obliterated before the first track of Destrage's Are You Kidding Me? No. is over. Destrage's metal is more furious, the left turns more imaginative, and the hooks are catchier. And unfortunately for Cormorant, they share some of the same criticisms one could level at their Italian counterparts (derivative and gimmicky familiarity, less than stellar vocals). Also, and this is a little unfair but I've gotta say it: the production values on AYKM?N. are fucking pristine. Destrage once again take the prize, and survive to face Fallujah next week.
We've got a better wakeup call tomorrow than a shot of espresso: it's Xerath versus Black Crown Initiate!
